Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (the PMSY) scheme is a health care program for the Indian government, which envisages creating third-class health services that include clinical care, medical education, research throughout India, and addresses the needs of unclassified districts in the country. Vision

Converting existing Government Medical Colleges into super specialty healthcare centers, together with delivering quality medical education, besides undertaking medical research
In meeting these two main aims, the government would endeavor to eradicate the imbalances that the country has seen regarding the availability of quality healthcare services, medical schooling, and research across India.

Upgrading Government Medical Colleges
Creation of New AIIMS

The new AIIMS would contain the following features:

Modern and contemporary analytical services infrastructure and modular state-of-the-art operation auditoria
Up to 20 super specialty departments
Ultramodern hospitals, with up to 960-bed capacity
Capacity to instruct 100 MBBS undergraduate students
Capacity to educate 60 Nursing student students
Postgraduate education and study to be given prime focus

In line with the desire to provide the best healthcare to all the people in underserved areas, 22 AIIMS have been accepted, of which six are already functional, and the rest are in various stages of development.
